Health Research and Policy

Faculty members in the Department of Health Research and Policy (HRP) participate in community outreach and educational programs, especially concerning cancer and Stanford's new Cancer Center. They are happy to speak about their research and to interact with members of the local community, for example at schools or at gatherings sponsored by governmental agencies or members of the private sector. At present faculty advise groups in all three areas. Possible topics include the link between cell phones and car accidents; the impact of environmental, dietary, and genetic factors upon cancer and heart disease; the computer revolution as it bears upon medicine, not least upon our understanding genes and their proteins; the cost-effectiveness of many medical interventions; and models for the practice of medicine.
